The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has warned on Saturday there is a potential threat to nuclear safety in Europe as heavy fighting is taking place around Europe’s largest nuclear power plant.

The Unite Nations Atomic watchdog have expressed their deep concerns over the fighting taking place around the Russian controlled Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine.

IAEA expert based at the plant have heard numerous “explosions” this week around the nuclear facility and it has been reported there is an uptick of military activity in the vicinity.

The IAEA director general, Rafael Mariano Grossi has expressed that he is “deeply concerned” of the dangers that could affect Ukraine and Europe.

Grossi said, “Whatever happens in a conflict zone, wherever it may be, everybody would stand to lose from a nuclear accident, and I urge that all necessary precautions must be taken to avoid it happening.”

He added, “I remain deeply concerned about the possible dangers facing the plant at this time of heightened military tension in the region.”

The Ukrainian President has warned of his concerns that Vladimir Putin is preparing to use “nuclear blackmail” in a warning to the West.

Zelensky said in a tweet to the IAEA’s Grossi, “Met with Rafael Grossi to discuss security of our energy industry and nuclear plants. Primarily, the ZNPP still used by Russia for radiation blackmail of the world.

“The longer Russia occupies the ZNPP, the greater will be the threat to the security of Ukraine, Europe and the world.”

Zelensky said on Saturday that Putting is “deflated as a man, as a politician” warning that he is capable of doing anything.

President Zelensky added, “The fact that he killed Prigozhin – at least that’s the information we all have, not any other kind – that also speaks to his rationality, and about the fact that he is weak.
