Met Police capture escaped terror suspect Daniel Khalife in Chiswick

The Metropolitan Police have captured Daniel Khalife four days after he escaped from under a van at Wandsworth Prison in Chiswick, West London.

The Met Police captured the fugitive shortly after 11am on Saturday following several sightings of Khalife overnight.

Police have said they will provide more information in dues course following his arrest and Khalife is now in custody.

The Metropolitan Police said in a short statement that they apprehended the former soldier in the Chiswick area just before 11am today.

The Met said, “We would like to thank the public and media for their support throughout our investigation to locate Khalife, and we will provide a further update on his arrest in due course.”

The Prime Minister said he is “very pleased” with the news that the Met police have captured terror suspect after almost four days on the run.

Speaking from the G20 summit in India, Rishi Sunak said, “My thanks to the police officers for their work over the last couple of days and to the public who came forward with an enormous amount of leads to help the police with their enquiries.

“It is good news that we have captured the person concerned.

“The justice secretary has already initiated an inquiry into the circumstances of his escape, so this work will continue.

“This is very welcome news.”

Before his arrest the police said they are following “intelligence-led activity” with confirmed sightings of the escaped prisoner the Met Police carried out “intensive” searches throughout Saturday morning.

Police could be seen stopping cars and asking the public to open their boots and checking ID and armed units with dogs are by the River Thames.
