The Latvian government met at the Seimas on Thursday and announced that Russia is now “recognised as a state sponsor for terrorism” because Russian forces are using suffering and intimidation as an instrument to demoralise the Ukrainian people.

They said in a statement that they recognise Russia’s aggressive actions against the civilian population of Ukraine as terrorism, and “the Russian Federation as a state-sponsor of terrorism.”

According to the press service of the Latvian Parliament, this was supported by 67 politicians out of 100.

The Latvian government said, “Russia uses suffering and intimidation as a tool in its attempts to demoralize the Ukrainian people and the Armed Forces, to paralyze the ability of the state to act with the aim of occupying Ukraine.

“The Seimas recognizes Russia’s violence against civilians, which is carried out to achieve political goals, as terrorism, and Russia as a state supporting terrorism, and calls on other countries to express such an opinion.”

The politicians have also called on other EU countries to suspend the issuance of visas to all Russian citizens including Belarus by strengthening sanctions against the Russian Federation.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said he was grateful for the their resolution, adding, “Ukraine encourages other states and organizations to follow suit.”
