What do you get if you mix a music producer, a serial entrepreneur, a visual artist and a well respected plant scientist? Add the caveat that they are all long-time advocates of plant based medicine and you’ll arrive at KLORIS CBD

CBD is short for cannabidiol, which is one of more than 80 chemical cannabinoids found in Hemp/Cannabis. Cannabis oil, or CBD oil as it is more commonly known, is an oil that is developed using this particular compound.

Cannabinoids, especially CBD, activate the cannabinoid receptors (CB1 and CB2) (via our Endocannabinoid System), which tells your body to feel a certain way and do certain things. They also affect and regulate other bodily systems, like your immune, nervous, and gastrointestinal systems. Studies now suggest that CBD can be beneficial for a myriad of uses including help with Anxiety, Insomnia, Migraines, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Crohn’s disease, Acne, Parkinson’s disease, Fibromyalgia and much more.

Perhaps because of its usefulness the CBD market feels like it is expanding daily. KLORIS appears to be standing out because of its serious science credentials and the transparency with which they operate in a traditionally cloak and dagger industry. They freely offer information not only about the processes of how their products are made but also proving the efficacy and potency of the end result. They publish all of their lab reports on their website and host talks and workshops nationwide to educate people about CBD. A smart move, and perhaps explains why they are fast becoming the UK’s most talked-about CBD brand.

1. What is it like having different types of personalities on the board?

KIM: It’s great, we all bring different things to the table… I sort of feel we couldn’t have done it without all of us. Our chief Science Officer is invaluable for obvious reasons, he really puts us through our paces with regard to product development. Pedram understands the plant inside out, Matt is incredible with e-commerce and has the most brilliant eye for detail. And I bring a different skill set in addition. We are all very different characters and that works well.

2. What were the biggest hurdles/pitfalls when setting up the company?

PEDRAM: People’s perception about legislation – we came up against a lack of knowledge a lot of time, we were often asked “Is what you’re doing legal? will I get in trouble if I buy your product” and so on, with that the educative talks felt like the natural thing to do. And of course boring things like admin – we couldn’t get a bank to take our money! It took 4 months to get a merchant account and we are still banned from things like social media adverts so the usual modern day marketing rules don’t apply here.  You have to be inventive.

3. What advice would you give to someone wanting to set up their own brand?

MATT: Do it for the right reasons, we truly believe that integrity is key to the long term success of any brand.

4. Why did you start KLORIS?

KIM: We all really love CBD, we’ve seen it work on ourselves personally, we’ve seen it work for family members with a number of different ailments and we’ve tried a lot the bad stuff on the market! KLORIS was really born out of desire to access the power of plants as an effective health supplement and demystify what CBD is all about and how it can help people.

5. What’s been the most valuable lesson you’ve learnt in business?

MATT: You have to establish right from the start what your core values are and then always be true them – whether you’re dealing with customers, suppliers, partners or employees.
