The Ukrainian port city of Izmail has been under further Russian drone strikes overnight and a barrage of missiles landed within “800 metres” from Romania’s border.
Romania is a member of NATO and allegedly an attack on the alliance is an attack on all members.
However, on Monday Kyiv said that they have photographic evidence a “Shahed” drone was fired by Russia and landed inside Romania’s territory.
The Romanian President Klaus Iohannis said on Wednesday that another round of Russian strikes came “very, very close.”

He said, “We had attacks just today, the minister of defence told me, which were verified at 800 metres from our border. So very, very close.
“I can tell you no piece, no drone and no part of a device landed in Romania.”
The Romanian defence minister Angel Tilvar said, according to the HotNews website, which cites Antena 3 CNN that parts of a Russian drone had in fact landed on Romania’s territory on Monday, despite Bucharest “categorically” denying the claims.
Now Tilvar has said that the possible Russian drone parts “were no threat,” to which officials in Kyiv are saying that Bucharest is afraid of “direct conflict” with Moscow.
The Romanian Defence Minister told broadcaster Antenna 3 CNN, “I confirm that pieces which might be the elements of a drone were found.”
Tilvar added that there “were no elements” which “represent a threat” to Romania.
On Monday a senior official in Kyiv accused Romania of denying that a Russian drone “detonated” on their territory to avoid NATO triggering Article 5 which would start World War Three.
Ukrainian politician Oksana Savchuk told Ukrainian television she believes that the Romanian government are trying to prevent NATO getting into a direct war with Russia.
Ukrainian officials said on Monday that Russian drones flew past a Ukrainian city and had hit Romania.
Romanian resident Daniela Tanase, whose house overlooks Ukraine’s Izmail port across the Danube river, said she could not be certain if a drone did land in their territory.
Sky News reported that Tanase said, “We heard the drones, the booms and the air defence systems across the river.
“We saw a light in the distance from our window, it was raining last night.”
The Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba told reporters after a press conference in Kyiv that they have “photographic evidence” that “Russian drones struck Romanian territory” during an overnight air attack on Izmail.
Article 5 of the NATO founding treaty, explicitly states that “if a NATO Ally is the victim of an armed attack, each and every other member of the Alliance will consider this act of violence as an armed attack against all members and will take the actions it deems necessary to assist the Ally attacked.”
It further adds, that “an armed attack against one or more of them in Europe or North America shall be considered an attack against them all.”
